Astute (“the app”, “we”) is developed and operated by TheBaleCompany. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who helps us process it, and your rights.

What we collect

An account. The first time you open Astute it creates an anonymous account: a random identifier, nothing about you. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email address they give us (Apple can give a private relay address instead) and, from Apple, the name you share with it the first time, so that your progress can follow you to another phone.

Your progress, as a backup. So that it survives a new phone, the app keeps a copy of your progress with your account: the name you chose in the app, your streak and the days you read, the cards you saved, liked or set aside, the cards you have seen, your answers with how sure you were and any reason you wrote, the subjects and levels you picked, your friend codes, and a token for sending you notifications.

Friends. If you add friends, the app publishes a small board that people with your code can see: the name you chose, your streak and weeks, how well your confidence matches your results, and the day’s cards as squares for right and wrong. Never the questions or your answers.

What readers keep. The first time you like, save or say a card, the app adds one to that card’s count for the day, so Explore can show which cards readers held on to most this week and this month. A count is only a number for a card on a day: it carries nothing about who added it — no account, no device, no time.

Purchases. Astute+ is sold by Apple on iPhone and by Google Play on Android, and we never see your payment details. RevenueCat, which checks subscriptions for us, receives the purchase record from the store together with your anonymous account identifier, so that your subscription follows your account.

Usage. To learn which parts of the app help and where people get stuck, the app sends usage events to PostHog, on servers in the European Union: which screens are opened and for how long, how far through the day’s cards you go and how long each card holds you, whether answers were right and how sure you were, which kinds of cards are saved or liked, which widgets are placed and which of them open the app, which reminders are opened, and changes of plan, how long the app takes to start and to fetch new cards, together with the device model, the system version, the app version, the language, the text size, whether dark mode is on and a random identifier for this installation. These events are tied to your account’s random identifier, so that one reader counts once across their phones; never to your name or your email. It also sends reports of errors and crashes, and recordings of how the screens are used — taps and scrolls — with every word on the screen hidden, so nothing you read or write is recorded. Never your name, your email, your friend codes, or anything you write. What you type in Explore stays on your phone: only how long the search was and how many cards it found are counted. PostHog receives your device’s IP address, from which it estimates your approximate location, such as your country and city. You can turn all of this off at any time in the app, under Profile → Usage data.

On your phone only. Your reminder time, the theme and what the widgets show stay on your device, and the daily reminder is scheduled by the phone itself. The app and its widgets download the question of the day and new cards from this website; nothing about you is sent with the request.

We do not sell your data, show advertising, or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Who processes it

Each acts on our behalf under its own data protection terms. Some may process data outside the European Union, under the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Why

Your account, your backup, friends’ boards and your subscription are how we provide the app you asked for (performance of a contract). Usage events rest on our legitimate interest in improving the app, and you can switch them off at any time.

How long

Your backup and your board are kept for as long as your account exists. Usage events are kept only for as long as they are needed to understand how the app is used. You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Profile → Delete account, or by writing to us: the account, the backup and the board are deleted, and so is everything the app kept on your phone. Deleting the account does not cancel an Astute+ subscription, which you manage in the App Store or in Google Play.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, object to or restrict its processing, and withdraw your consent at any time. Write to us at the address below and we will answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it).

Children

Astute is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.

Astute (“l’app”, “noi”) è sviluppata e gestita da TheBaleCompany. Questa informativa spiega che cosa raccoglie l’app, perché, chi ci aiuta a trattarlo e quali sono i tuoi diritti.

Che cosa raccogliamo

Un account. La prima volta che apri Astute l’app crea un account anonimo: un identificativo casuale, niente su di te. Se scegli di accedere con Apple o con Google, riceviamo l’indirizzo email che ci forniscono (Apple può fornirne uno privato di inoltro) e, da Apple, il nome che le permetti di condividere la prima volta, perché i tuoi progressi possano seguirti su un altro telefono.

I tuoi progressi, come backup. Perché sopravvivano a un telefono nuovo, l’app conserva una copia dei tuoi progressi insieme al tuo account: il nome che hai scelto nell’app, la serie e i giorni in cui hai letto, le carte salvate, apprezzate o messe da parte, le carte già viste, le tue risposte con quanto eri sicuro e le eventuali motivazioni scritte, gli argomenti e i livelli scelti, i codici amico e un token per inviarti notifiche.

Amici. Se aggiungi degli amici, l’app pubblica una piccola scheda visibile a chi ha il tuo codice: il nome che hai scelto, la serie e le settimane, quanto la tua sicurezza corrisponde ai tuoi risultati, e le carte del giorno come quadrati giusti e sbagliati. Mai le domande né le tue risposte.

Cosa tengono i lettori. La prima volta che una carta ti piace, la salvi o la racconti, l’app aggiunge uno al conteggio di quella carta per quel giorno, così Esplora può mostrare le carte più tenute della settimana e del mese. Un conteggio è solo un numero per una carta in un giorno: non dice niente di chi l’ha aggiunto — né account, né dispositivo, né ora.

Acquisti. Astute+ è venduto da Apple su iPhone e da Google Play su Android, e non vediamo mai i tuoi dati di pagamento. RevenueCat, che verifica gli abbonamenti per nostro conto, riceve dallo store la registrazione dell’acquisto insieme al tuo identificativo anonimo, perché l’abbonamento segua il tuo account.

Utilizzo. Per capire quali parti dell’app sono utili e dove le persone si bloccano, l’app invia eventi di utilizzo a PostHog, su server nell’Unione europea: quali schermate vengono aperte e per quanto tempo, a che punto arrivi nelle carte del giorno e quanto tempo resti su ciascuna, se le risposte erano giuste e quanto eri sicuro, quali tipi di carte vengono salvate o apprezzate, quali widget sono installati e quali aprono l’app, quali promemoria vengono aperti e i cambi di piano, quanto ci mette l’app ad aprirsi e a scaricare le carte nuove, insieme al modello del dispositivo, alla versione del sistema e dell’app, alla lingua, alla dimensione del testo, al tema scuro e a un identificativo casuale di questa installazione. Questi eventi sono legati all’identificativo casuale del tuo account, perché chi legge conti una volta sola anche su più telefoni; mai al tuo nome o alla tua email. Invia anche segnalazioni di errori e arresti anomali, e registrazioni di come vengono usate le schermate — tocchi e scorrimenti — con tutto il testo nascosto, così niente di quello che leggi o scrivi viene registrato. Mai il tuo nome, la tua email, i codici amico o quello che scrivi. Quello che scrivi in Esplora resta sul telefono: si conta solo quanto era lunga la ricerca e quante carte ha trovato. PostHog riceve l’indirizzo IP del dispositivo, da cui stima la tua posizione approssimativa, per esempio paese e città. Puoi disattivare tutto questo in qualsiasi momento nell’app, in Profilo → Dati di utilizzo.

Solo sul tuo telefono. L’orario del promemoria, il tema e quello che mostrano i widget restano sul tuo dispositivo, e il promemoria giornaliero è programmato dal telefono stesso. L’app e i suoi widget scaricano da questo sito la domanda del giorno e le nuove carte; con la richiesta non viene inviato nulla su di te.

Non vendiamo i tuoi dati, non mostriamo pubblicità e non ti tracciamo nelle app e nei siti di altre aziende.

Chi li tratta

Ciascuno agisce per nostro conto secondo i propri termini sulla protezione dei dati. Alcuni possono trattare dati fuori dall’Unione europea, con le garanzie richieste dal GDPR, come le Clausole contrattuali standard della Commissione europea.

Perché

Account, backup, schede degli amici e abbonamento servono a fornirti l’app che hai richiesto (esecuzione di un contratto). Gli eventi di utilizzo si basano sul nostro legittimo interesse a migliorare l’app, e puoi disattivarli in qualsiasi momento.

Per quanto tempo

Il backup e la scheda restano finché esiste il tuo account. Gli eventi di utilizzo sono conservati solo per il tempo necessario a capire come viene usata l’app. Puoi eliminare il tuo account in qualsiasi momento dall’app, in Profilo → Elimina account, oppure scrivendoci: vengono eliminati account, backup e scheda, e tutto quello che l’app teneva sul telefono. Eliminare l’account non disdice l’abbonamento Astute+, che si gestisce nell’App Store o in Google Play.

Le tue scelte

I tuoi diritti

In base al GDPR puoi chiedere di accedere ai tuoi dati, correggerli, cancellarli o riceverne una copia, opporti al trattamento o limitarlo, e revocare il consenso in qualsiasi momento. Scrivici all’indirizzo qui sotto e ti risponderemo entro 30 giorni. Puoi anche presentare reclamo al Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it).

Minori

Astute non è rivolta ai minori di 13 anni e non raccogliamo consapevolmente i loro dati. Se pensi che un minore ci abbia fornito dati personali, scrivici e li cancelleremo.

Modifiche

Se questa informativa cambia, la nuova versione viene pubblicata su questa pagina con una nuova data.
